How to outplant cells?
Step by Step:
- First, ensure that your growing media is properly prepared and ready for planting. Please refer to our guidance on Growing Media if you're unsure!
- Set-up your training lines across all three rows (to define each as a separate space).
- Within each row, create a small furrow using a single finger. A structure of 3-2-3 is advised - i.e. 3 holes in the two outside rows, and 2 holes in the centre.
- Use a trowell to dig out the furrow you've just marked.
- Next, collect your root-trainer and spread out the root system at its base, then deposit it gently in the pre-prepared hole.
- Backfill the soil then consolidate gently with the flat of a hand.
- Repeat this for all plants.
- Finally, if using, loop round, attach and fasten your training lines to support your plants.
How to outplant herb rootrainers into quadrants?
Step by Step:
- First, ensure that your growing media is properly prepared and ready for planting. Please refer to our guidance on Growing Media if you're unsure!
- Using two sets of training lines, place a rod in each corner point of the container and cross lines diagonally so that they intersect in the centre (creating four triangles).
- In each quadrant, use markers (we've used five pence pieces, here) to design a 4:3:2:1 structure in the shape of a pyramid.
- Using a trowell, dig out a small furrow where each of the markers are and gently place a single root-trainer within it.
- Gently brush material back around the root-trainer and consolidate with the back of a hand.
- Repeat this for all 9 plants in the quadrant, and repeat the process in each additional quadrant, thereafter.
- Finally, water all quadrants generously (but without allowing water to stand on the surface - this would indicate saturation) until the soil stops drawing down.
